I am heartened to hear that the Wild Olympics Wilderness and Wild and Scenic River Act has been introduced after extensive input from our local communities and many other stakeholders.
Sen. [Patty] Murray and Rep. [Norm] Dicks, along with their staffs, deserve thanks for their commitment to produce a balanced, sensible bill that will keep the Peninsula's water clean, our salmon healthy and our scenery unspoiled without impacting timber jobs.
As an outdoor enthusiast, I appreciate the abundance of scenic landscapes and recreational opportunities found on the Olympic Peninsula.
Once this legislation is passed, opportunities for bird watching, hiking, hunting, fishing, and camping will be protected and enhanced for future generations to enjoy.
I encourage Congress to move this bill forward and approve it.
